biography

Born in Biarritz in 1981, I traveled extensively throughout my childhood in Europe, South America, and North Africa. In this isolated family environment, creative hobbies were valued, and drawing occupied my free time. Returning to France in 1992, I joined the children's workshop at the Capucins art school in Bayonne. My interest in realism and still lifes quickly led me to the adult workshop, where I studied from the age of 11 to 15 alongside Mr. Berthomé's students. My work there was heterogeneous and disjointed, influenced by the artistic movements I studied and the work of other students.

At 18, I received my Canon AE1, which would be my constant companion for four years. I dropped out of school and forged my own path in photography. Driven by both a desire for independence and a spirit of rebellion, I rejected all influences and worked by trial and error, with no interest in the history of photography. At the same time, I explored fashion design in the same way and produced a few installations and light fixtures.

In 2003, I began my nursing training in Bordeaux. Two years later, my very first exhibition reflected my work: polymorphic, anarchic, abundant, and full of repetition. The second was more accomplished, with a central theme questioning temporality, a scenographic approach, and the choice of a venue that echoed my artistic process.

After graduating, I left mainland France to explore the Indian Ocean. Reunion Island, Australia, Asia... always armed with my cameras, I honed my perspective on the world I was discovering. I photographed the cracked paint on old houses and fishing boats. I pondered the history of these layers of paint, one on top of the other, each covering the memory of the previous one, removing it from view to better allow it to transcend time.

In 2011, back in Réunion, I watched the water flow down from the peaks of the Cirque de Salazie. I pondered the universality of the flow, invincible, inexorable, and inevitable. The erosion and lava flows that sculpt this island appeared to me as the embodiment of the paradox of eternity and the fleeting moment.

That same year, the desire to hold a third photographic exhibition emerged. For this exhibition, I envisioned very large prints but encountered this technical limitation.

The idea of painting these images came to me one morning. I reproduced my first portrait in two days. The experience of the medium's fluidity and the result struck me. This was followed, over a few weeks, by the production of a series of acrylic paintings on canvas, which would become the subject of my first exhibition , Leaking Trip . I took this exhibition to Mayotte, where I lived for the next few years.

It was back in Réunion, in 2017, that I picked up my brushes again. As if the impulse came from the island itself, I found my inspiration in the living world around me: portraits, plants, scenes of everyday life. Flow, layering, and the question of time and its relationship to life became central, and my artistic exploration took shape. I participated in Lydie Arrickx's exhibition "The Origin of the World" at the Villa de Région in Saint-Denis in 2018. I turned professional the following year.

In July 2023, I suspended my career as an emergency room nurse to devote myself entirely to my profession as an artist.
